Riksbank Rate Decision

What it measures

The Riksbank announces its policy interest rate, which influences borrowing costs and demand across Sweden. Traders compare the new rate and accompanying guidance with expectations, especially how the bank sees inflation returning to its 2% CPIF target.

Why it moves the SEK

A rate above expectations generally supports the krona by increasing the return on Swedish assets and raising the expected path of future rates; a lower-than-expected rate usually weakens it. This is one of the most important scheduled Swedish currency events, although guidance can matter as much as the headline rate.
