What it measures

This monthly US payrolls report measures the change in average hourly pay from the previous month. It is a closely watched gauge of wage pressure, but can be volatile and affected by changes in the mix of jobs.

Why it moves the USD

Faster wage growth can keep inflation persistent and lead markets to price fewer Fed cuts, supporting the dollar. It is released with payrolls and unemployment, so those figures often shape the overall reaction.
